SHOPPING FOR GRACE & PEACE… 11/26/21 … Frantic Friday or not

In my thanksgiving for those who plan ahead, who zoom out on “Black Friday” with their lists, I realized that we can do a different kind of shopping. We can shop without the frenzy, without the disappointments of no money or not finding what you are looking for. We can “shop” for spiritual gifts such as grace and peace. We can use our time in contemplation, scripture, devotions, creating song, and the many ways that can create room for the spiritual gifts to dwell in us.

I am choosing this second option and invite you to prayer:

THE OTHER SIDE OF HAPPY .. . 11/24/2021 . Wednesday .

My wishes and blessings to all for a Happy Thanksgiving! No matter where you live. Thanksgiving can be any day that we take time to note our gratitude, savor the joys, and contemplate our blessings.

That doesn’t mean that everything in our lives matches our hopes and desires.

It does mean that we are willing to learn from the hurts, let go of the anger and bitterness, and seek to see what we can be thankful for even in our loss and pain.

I have discovered over time that holding onto the hurts can make us captive to them while letting go opens the doors to freedom and joy.

THE HOKEY POKEY & THE CHURCH…. 11/18/2021 .. Thursday ….

What gifts do you perceive from the Church? Can it be an antidote to the violence and fear that seem to reign in our world? Can we work and sing and move together like we do in the Hokey Pokey?

I am so thankful for my church experiences.

Today my prayer is for all expressions of Church to be of love, hope, joy, peace, wisdom, care, and positive transformation:

Thoughts to Ponder:

You are a Royal Priesthood.

What does that mean to you? What royal treasures have you accumulated? How are you blessed and a blessing?

Will you join me in Morning Prayer, not a beautiful prayer book prayer, but rather a prayer of the moment? Even now, I realize that it could use so much editing. I said I never give clothes away which isn’t true, but I do continue to wear clothes that were my grandmother’s. My friend who thought I had so many clothes didn’t know that my closet rods were broken and I chose to make it a place to store files and put my clothes on clothing racks instead. Still, I can’t even begin to share how generous my siblings and others have been in passing things down and how fortunate I am. And that returns me to the Royal Treasure of Gratitude.

… NO LIMITS! ….. 11/14/2021 ….… Sunday Home Communion ..

She said, “I want to talk about Jesus. What does Jesus mean to you? Where does Jesus show up? How does ‘In the Name of Jesus’ bring power in your life?”

And I turn to the beginning of I Samuel, to the story of Hannah and Elkanah, and Peninnah also. It is a story of love, of triumph over mean put-downs, a story that goes beyond the limits of cultural norms and expectations.

It is a story that gives us a glimpse of how limitless the Love of the Divine is. Jesus continues to open our eyes to this Love as he also goes beyond the norms of his time to offer love and hope and restoration to the “value of our intrinsic personhood”. (Westminster Bible Companion: I &II Samuel; Eugene Peterson. p. 17)

When we gather for Holy Communion, at home or wherever we may be, we continue to live out The Story of Love available for each and every one.
