When I was growing up, the City Beautiful Committee sponsored “Clean Up, Fix Up, Paint Up” contests in the schools. We proudly created posters to share and learned how important it was to take care of the environment.

I especially became an activist about litter. I have been known to stop my car and tell people to pick up the trash they just threw down. Amazingly, people did. I have carried bags out and picked up trash on the streets myself. Not littering seems like such an easy way to pay attention to our environment- and not let our cities come back down with something like the Bubonic Plague.

A few years later, I absorbed the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” slogan. To me, here was another easy way to help our earth. I reveled in the stories of women who found ways to make money to support missions when there was very little money at all and of those who could create many things from what was already around.

To get to the point, I am a Tree Hugger. I try to lower my consumption (books and pens are a weakness, however), I embrace Earth Day, week, month, year! I embrace doing what we can to care for this incredible gift we have been given. I love the nature all around us!

Yet, today, I was not where I could get on the internet and I did not begin the day with a Live Prayer to post. I did, however, witness the mighty workings of the Caring, Loving One, the Mysterious Divinity. I had no idea how deeply and powerfully The Spirit would be moving as I agreed to help someone who asked.

It wasn’t a traditional earth day in the park and I wanted to be able to begin the day with live prayer. But what took place was certainly answers to prayers and will, I hope, lead to a better earth and environment for us all. I pray it is so.
