Paul tells the Corinthians, “Do you want to be the best in something? Do you really want something to brag about? How about being best at generosity, like you said you wanted to be?“ Paul doesn’t even say to give everything away, just to give as you are able. Develop the gift of generosity. (II Corinthians 8)
This morning on our town Facebook page, a young woman asked if there was somewhere to get utility assistance. She had a 2 month old and her water was about to be cut off. As I clicked on the comments, I was amazed at the number of people who personally offered to pay the bill for her. They didn’t know her. She didn’t ask for that. But they gave from the generosity of their hearts.
Years ago, I had a funeral for an incredibly generous man. The chapel was standing room only filled with people who loved him and people he had helped.
Having a spirit of generosity is a reflection of the generous blessings poured into our lives every day.
