The air conditioning is out again. People who promised to pay, don’t. The list of projects to be done is growing. Hopes seem to keep running into dead ends. There is plenty to bring us down.
But wait! We have a place to live. We have electricity. We have fans. We have a refrigerator and freezer. We have ice. We have running water. We have so much goodness all around us.
All the talk about mindfulness can be a little daunting for me. I can be so focused and one thing and have so many thoughts running around in my head, that I don’t have any idea what else is going on or what I have even just done. Even those of us who aren’t what my mother called “dingy,” can slip through meals, drive past familiar places, go through routines without paying much attention.
Modern science is teaching us that our lives can be filled with so much more joy if we take the time to savor these things. My prayer this morning is for the blessings of savoring:
